These spells are worth considering:
totem of pacifism
totem of guarding
heal
morph
summon eagle
trap the wizard
After the cut scene, summon an eagle
and morph into it.
Fly directly north-east and land on top of the wall. The gatekeeper is waiting to the left of you.
He is waiting for a trigger, so won't have spotted you. But he is now trapped!
kill the gatekeeper
For a change, create a
totem of pacifism
and a
totem of guarding
next to each other between you and the wizard. The pacifism needs to be closest to Aurax.
The gatekeeper will now attempt to destroy the rock golem by HTH combat, but will be pacified from doing so.
The rock warrior will not! Keep your eye on the health of these 2 totems,
and heal them as necessary.
The gatekeeper is tough, uses iron skin and heals himself, but eventually he'll be pounded into oblivion.
killing melesius
Melisius will turn up, and turn Deaphus into stone.
There's nothing you can do about this.
Melisius will however fail to escape, and will stand still - pretending to be a wall?
This is a game bug.
You can force attack (click while pressing 'A') to kill him.
He'll still return later in the campaign, but you might feel better for it.
opening the door
The door to the north [2] requires a key. You will find this where the gatekeeper died.
goodies
On top of the western wall is a 'light sphere of the ancients' which will allow you to create a totem of light for free.
