does the game run under windows ME?

does the game run under windows XP?

Yes, but there are a number of reported problems caused by running under this operating system. The majority of problems with poor performance/frame rates and crashing have been traced to drivers for new video and sound cards. It's worth bearing in mind that XP is so very new too, and driver support is likely to be initially shaky.
symptom 1 - slow performance/poor frame rate
  • menus and game screens only update every couples of seconds making it unplayable
  • areas of transparency/alpha blending (for example, smoking campfires) are very slow, but when they are out of view the game runs faster
    symptom 2 - crashes
  • the game crashes at the start of every new campaign as the camera zooms in on the main character
    solutions
For new devices like the ATI Radeon 8500 and Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy, driver issues are the most likely causes of instability and crashes. In particular, check that you have the latest (and compliant) drivers for your motherboard (AGP specifically), video and sound card. The latter two should (hopefully) be WHQL certified (check in the DirectX applet within Control Panel).
