A required .DLL file, D3D8.DLL, was not found.
If you're getting this error dialog, then you haven't got Microsoft DirectX 8 installed on your machine.
Do you have DirectX8 installed on your computer?
The demo WASN'T supplied with DX8. The game WAS suplied with DX8.
You can download DX8 from

The 'failed to start Direct3D' message could be because the demo is looking for the DirectX8.1 runtime.
The demo (note, not the full game) was built using this
- a beta version of DX8.1 has been available to developers for some time.
