'Linear texture mip-mapping is not supported'
There are 2 possible fixes for the error:
"Linear texture mip-mapping is not supported.
this engine won't run without it."
using the video selector
VideoSelector.Exe exists in the same directory that the Magic And Mayhem 2.exe does.
Once you find it, run it.
If you can't find it, download the file from here
VideoSelector will write to the ...\Magic And Mayhem 2\... registry key.
(If you're playing the demo, you need to manually create this key first
and then re-create the same registry settings under
...\Magic And Mayhem 2 Demo\...
VideoSelector ONLY updates the main game registry key - not the demo one.
If you re-run VideoSelector you'll need to re-copy the registry settings.)
using the registry file
This registry file is a workaround which may allow 'The Art of Magic' to run on graphics devices based on the Intel 810/815 chipsets.
To apply the workaround:
- Download the SuppressMipCheck.reg file (from here) and save it somewhere.
- Open the .reg file by double clicking on it.
- Windows will prompt you, asking "Are you sure you want to add..." Chose "Yes".
This is unsupported.
There is no guarantee that it will help with Intel chipset devices, but there has been positive feedback.
Further feedback, positive or negative should be sent to support@artofmagic.co.uk
In particular, precise details of the exact Intel devices would help.
The patch will not have any effect on the free trial version.
It is only effective in the final, retail version of the game.
Note:
Many systems have Intel 810/815 chipsets whose graphics features are not used.
It is very likely that you may have an 810 chipset and an add-in graphics card, such as a GeForce.
In this case, the GeForce is your graphics device, the 810's graphics features are disabled and the patch does not apply.
how to increase texture quality
See the info on SysMemConfig.dat
If you're using Detonator 3* drivers, check you don't have the mipmapping detail option set to 'fastest', 'best' or 'high speed'.
With any of these, the visual quality will be sacrificed. Set to 'Best Image Quality'.
*Detonator 3 are nVidia drivers for their TNT, TNT2, GeForce1, GeForce2 and GeForce3 cards.
It's just they use a catchy name.
Quite often, PC manufacturers (if they are big enough) will use their own drivers or drivers
they took from nVidia ages ago and then 'modified'. These drivers won't perform anywhere near
as well as the latest nVidia ones. Basically, if you've got an nVidia card, get Detonator 3s.
text unreadable
This problem is independent of hardware/OS
symptom
Everything else looks fine (if a little burred) but the text is a mess.
solution
There is a file missing in the install called SysMemConfig.dat.
If you don't have it, you can download the file from here,
and extract it the directory that you installed the demo or the full version to.
