I cant see "Art of Magic" in the 'Not Installed' menu in Gamespy Arcade

Firstly, it's listed unter 'T' for 'The Art of Magic'.

Secondly, AOM shipped with version 1.08c of Gamespy Arcade. AOM doesn't become visible until 1.08d. When you access gamespy arcade it'll automatically try and upgrade you (for free) to the latest version (currently 1.08f) IFF you're not behind a firewall.

having trouble connecting the demo over gamespy arcade?

This executable will ensure that the registry is correctly set on your machine so that you can use GameSpy arcade with a greater chance of success. RegisterApplication.exe

The default path of the game executable that you need to find is C:\Program Files\Virgin Interactive Entertainment\Art of Magic Demo\Magic And Mayhem 2 Demo.exe

Thanks to Hal at www.artofmagic.co.uk for this one. More details of the fix on his site.

how do I connect over the internet without using gamespy arcade?

Use TCP-IP protocol - the process is as follows:

connect to the internet using Dial-up networking (or similar technology).

whoever intends to host, needs to find out their external IP address
(note that this changes every time you dial in unless you are using a permanent connection e.g. cable modem, DSL, T1, etc). On Win98, 98SE and ME Use winipcfg (start menu->run->winipcfg) and use the drop down box to select PPP. Look for the external IP address (not the default gateway address although they will be the same for a simple single user dial up connection).
On Windows2000, use type ipconfig into a Command Prompt window

(Start Menu->Progams->Accessories->Command Prompt).

tell this address to your fellow players

all start the game - when loaded, the host should select Battle->multiplayer->create. Other players should select battle->multipler->join. Here the clients type in the IP address they've been given - it should be of the form 62.184.145.32, or something similar The host's game name (hopefully named something reasonable) should appear almost immediately.
